How much do streaming platforms pay per stream?

Only Spotify, Apple Music and Audiomack have said how they pay, and none of them pays a fixed rate. Here is what each platform has actually said, in plain numbers, and how to work out what your own streams pay.

Platform by platform.

What each platform has published or said on the record. Every figure links to its source.
  • Spotify

    About ₦1.98 per stream

Average for Nigerian artists in 2025: over ₦60 billion for 30.3 billion streams. Streams from listeners inside Nigeria pay much less, about $300 per million.

  • Apple Music

    About $0.01 per stream

Apple's own average for individual paid plans in 2020, including label and publisher royalties. It varies by country, and discounted plans pay less.

  • Audiomack

No fixed rate; you get 50%

Each month Audiomack divides its ad and subscription money by all streams on the platform. Creators in its monetisation programme (AMP) get 50% of that for each stream, and it varies by country.

  • Boomplay

    Not published

Boomplay has not published a per-stream rate; when asked, it called the figure confidential. You are paid through your distributor, so your statement shows your real rate.

Why there is no fixed rate.

Streaming platforms pay from a pot: the money they make from subscriptions and ads in a month, shared by each artist's share of the streams. So a stream is worth more when more of the listeners pay, and when the platform earns more in that country.

That is why Nigerian listeners pay less per stream than listeners in the UK or US. Subscriptions cost less here and more people listen free. It is also why the same song can earn very different amounts on different platforms.

Find your real rate.

  1. 1Download the earnings report from your distributor.
  2. 2Filter it by platform: Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, Boomplay.
  3. 3For each one, divide the money earned by the number of streams.
  4. 4Then split it by country. You will see which listeners pay you most.

Earn more.

The rate is small everywhere, so the levers are volume, where your listeners are, and collecting everything you are owed.
  • More streams on the right platform

Audiomack and Boomplay for listeners at home; Spotify and Apple Music for the diaspora.

  • Listeners who pay more

Streams from the UK, US and Europe are worth many times local streams. Target them on purpose.

  • Your songwriting money

Publishing royalties are paid separately from streaming royalties and must be registered to be collected.

  • How much does Apple Music pay per stream?

Apple told artists its average was $0.01 per stream for individual paid plans in 2020, including label and publisher royalties. It varies by country and subscription plan.

  • How do I find my real pay per stream?

Open your distributor's earnings report, filter by platform and country, and divide the money by the streams. Do it for each platform; the numbers are often very different.
