How much does Spotify pay per stream in Nigeria?

About ₦1.98 per stream on average. In 2025 Spotify paid Nigerian artists over ₦60 billion for 30.3 billion streams. Streams from listeners inside Nigeria pay much less, about $300 per million, and every figure here is before your distributor or label takes its cut.

There is no fixed rate.

Spotify does not pay a set amount per stream. In each country it takes the money it earns there, from subscriptions and ads, and pays rights holders a share that matches their share of streams in that country. If your songs are 1% of all streams in a country, your rights holders get 1% of the recording royalties Spotify pays there.

So what a stream is worth depends on where the listener is. Spotify Premium costs about ₦1,600 a month in Nigeria and about $13.78 in Sweden. A million streams from Nigerian listeners pay around $300; the same streams in Sweden can pay up to $10,000.

Nigerian artists are heard all over the world, which is why their average across all listeners, about ₦1.98 per stream, is much higher than the local rate. (Spotify Loud & Clear 2025, via TechCabal)

How to earn more.

  • Get more streams

The rate is small, so volume matters. Curated playlists put your song in front of listeners who already play your genre.

    Spotify promotion
  • Reach listeners abroad

Streams from richer markets are worth far more: up to $10,000 per million in Sweden against about $300 in Nigeria. Reach the diaspora and global playlists.

    Music promotion options
  • Collect your publishing

If you wrote the song, you are also owed songwriting royalties. They are paid separately from recording royalties and have to be registered to be collected.

Spotify pay questions.

  • How much does Spotify pay per stream in Nigeria?

There is no fixed rate. On average, Spotify paid Nigerian artists about ₦1.98 per stream in 2025: over ₦60 billion for 30.3 billion streams. Streams from listeners inside Nigeria are worth much less, about $300 per million, because subscriptions in Nigeria cost far less than in Europe or the US.

  • How much does Spotify pay for 1,000 streams in Nigeria?

About ₦2,000 at the 2025 average for Nigerian artists, which mixes listeners in Nigeria and abroad. If all 1,000 streams come from listeners in Nigeria, it is closer to $0.30. Both figures are before your distributor or label takes its share.

  • How much does Spotify pay for 1 million streams in Nigeria?

About ₦1.98 million (around $1,450) at the 2025 average for Nigerian artists. A million streams from listeners in Nigeria alone pay around $300, while the same streams in Sweden can pay up to $10,000.

  • Why does Spotify pay less in Nigeria?

Spotify pays rights holders a share of the money it earns in each country, split by each artist's share of streams there. Premium in Nigeria costs about ₦1,600 a month, against about $13.78 in Sweden, so there is less money to share per stream.

  • Is the payout before or after my distributor takes its cut?

Before. Spotify pays your distributor or label, and they pay you after their share. Check your distribution deal to see what you keep.

  • How can I earn more from Spotify as a Nigerian artist?

Get more streams, and get listeners outside Nigeria, whose streams are worth more. Curated playlists help with both. Songwriters should also collect publishing royalties, which are paid separately from recording royalties.
