The Ultimate TikTok Song Virality Checklist for Musicians

TikTok has materialized as the surest bet of musicians looking to achieve virality success in today’s digital landscape. There is no denying the influence of TikTok in giving artists and other content creators the opportunity for global recognition.

The platform’s algorithm and robust user base are unmatched when compared to other social media like Instagram when it comes to going viral, as it could reach millions within a short period.

However, to achieve this virality success and ensure your music gets its deserved recognition. I’ve come up with a TikTok virality checklist to guide your efforts and ensure your music achieves its potential on the platform.

 1. Upload Your Music: The First Step to Going Viral

As they say, ‘The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step.’, so to say, the journey to TikTok virality begins with uploading your music on the platform. Most artist usually distributes their music through music distribution platforms like DistroKid and TuneCore, which make their songs available on TikTok automatically.

When your music is on the platform, it’s easy for other users to create content with it. This increases your chances of going viral, as more people are using your music in their videos,  you are earning royalties, and the algorithm gives you more exposure as it brings your music to the feeds of thousands of users.

Note: To improve your music discoverability, make use of hashtags like #NewMusic, #ViralSong, and #ForYouPage when you post video content with your music.

2. Build Your Following: Engage with the TikTok Community

Having a large following in TikTok is crucial for song success, but young artists, who don’t have that fanbase or followers can also be successful by engaging with the TikTok community.

Interact with people by commenting on posts, participating in trends, regularly posting content, and replying to comments on your posts. You can reach out to your friends to create content with your music.

The more active and engaged you are on the platform, the more likely it is for your music to go viral. Although some artists go viral by sheer luck, marking this checklist will improve your chances with TikTok’s algorithm in reaching thousands of potential fans.

Note: posting regularly will keep your audience engaged and possibly make your content to be featured on the For You Page (FYP). Create at least two posts per day, this will make your followers familiar with your music

 3. Create a TikTok Challenge: Encourage User-Generated Content

TikTok algorithm favors user-generated content more than ever, the ticket to your music going viral on the platform is to create a challenge around your music. It could be a dance routine, lip-sync, or comedy memes, just ensure your challenge follows these three rules:

  1. It must be simple
  2. It’s must be fun
  3. It must be easy to participate in

An interesting/funny challenge will inspire thousands of users to create video content using your song.

It is often better to run an influencer marketing campaign to jumpstart your challenge. Since they have a strong following, working with them will trigger a “Domino Effect” and help your music get a more organic feel.

In addition, reaching out to influencers is also a great way to test your music– if they are excited about creating a challenge with it, chances are it would go viral.

 4. Create Remixes: Keep the Buzz Alive

As your song gains traction, keeping the momentum going is key. One way to do this is by creating remixes or slowed-down versions of your track.

These could include different genres, tempos, or even collaborations with other artists. By providing fresh content, you give your audience more reasons to keep engaging with your music.

Note: Encourage, friends followers, and other creators to duet your videos. Duets allow users to build upon your original content, fostering a sense of community and further spreading your music on TikTok.

 5. Check TikTok Analytics: Understand What Works

The platform has a built-in analytics tool called Tiktok Pro. This helps creators in fine-tuning Their approach. Using this tool will give you deep insights into follower growth, video views, likes, comments, and shares over different periods.

When you track views, monitor follower trends, check out the audience’s demographics, and see which videos are hitting the mark. By leveraging on these metrics you will be able to identify which type of content gains you traction and what doesn’t.

By using this analytics tool, you can tweak your content strategy and give your next post the best shot of going viral

Note: if certain posts are not performing as expected, try to be flexible about your approach. Alternatively, if content is steadily gaining the attention of other users, apply more intensity. The goal is to discover your niche and achieve long-term success on the platform.

 6. Connect with Other Platforms: Amplify Your Reach

Share your TikTok content on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to reach a broader audience. Each platform has its unique algorithm and audience, so by cross-promoting, you maximize the chances of your song reaching viral status.

Instagram reels and TikTok are popular for sharing short, engaging content. By repurposing your TikTok videos for Instagram, you can tap into a different audience segment while maintaining consistency in your content strategy.

Note: Link your Tiktok profile to your Spotify, Apple Music, and website to ensure your followers can easily find and follow you across various platforms. This will build a stronger fanbase and ensure your work is visible across multiple channels boosting your visibility and influence.

7. Don’t Give Up: Persistence Pays Off

Making your music viral on Tiktok won’t happen overnight, it requires consistent creative efforts. Lots of successful artists that were discovered on TikTok have experienced a few near-misses before going viral eventually.

The key is not to give up– going viral on TikTok is usually one post away. Keep working on different content, engage with your followers, invest in marketing campaigns and you will eventually get that success.
